I grew up in a beautiful town of woods and sand dunes along Lake Michigan; Ogden Dunes. As the youngest of six, I enjoyed sports, family, and friends.
As a baby my heart stopped. While in surgical recovery, a nurse saw me turn cold blue and pushed a panic button. Thankfully a physician ran into the hospital room, slit open my chest, and massaged my heart with his hand. My heart was revived, and I later did quite well as an athlete through teen years and a few years at Purdue University where God gave me a new heart in Christ my senior year and a heart for revival.
As I was spiritually fathered and began to pour my life into faithful others, God gave me a love for Gospel-transformation. Following new Christians up through life, including my five children and their spouses, in the context of college ministry, pastorate, missions work, and teaching at seminaries gave me an appreciation for spiritual formation in four seasons of the Christian life; namely, Identity, Calling, Intentionality, and Legacy.
Embracing Your Identity in Christ: Renouncing Lies and Foolish Strategies, Calling to Christ: Where’s My Place?, Intentionality for Christ: What’s My Aim?, and Legacy from Christ: What’s My Message? were published by Westbow Press a Division of Thomas Nelson and Zondervan in 2017.
I have been writing and speaking on Gospel-transformation for over thirty years – teaching part-time in evangelical seminaries, preaching at conferences, and staying active in global missions. My most more scholarly books are the fruit of my Ph.D. – Jonathan Edwards’s Apologetic for the Great Awakening (Grand Rapids, MI: Reformation Heritage Books, 2011) and Pentecostal Outpourings: Revival and the Reformed Tradition (Reformation Heritage Books, 2016). These address the Person and work of the Holy Spirit in true revivals and Gospel-transformation. God gave my a treasure in Karen, and we enjoy our five children (all married) and twelve grandchildren.
I’ve been training national leaders as a Missions Perspectives Course Instructor for fifteen years, and as a seminary professor in Laos, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Belize, Colombia, Bolivia, Croatia, India, Ukraine, France, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Dominican Republic, and Indonesia.
I look forward to hearing from you, too. Please let me know if I may be of any benefit to you in becoming more solid about who God says you are in Christ.
